Site Unseen project -

For this project we were encouraged to explore and photograph the foundation building and the surrounding area of Wilson Road. This was varying from the windows in the lecture theatre, to the churchyard opposite. We were given context on the building to work with or given the option to explore fictional stories. You could choose out of a list to produce, this could be a prop, a costume, set design and live performance. I chose costume deign specifically as it is something I felt more comfortable in doing in such a small amount of time. I took particular interest in the trees that surround the building. These trees are very old and are usually accompanied by many crows. I felt the crows giving the an opportunity to become something slightly more whimsical. I found myself on the story of Apollo and Daphne. The story gave such strong emotive imagery that I thought it made for a great storyline. I began to research greek mythology illustrations and even metamorphosis. I liked the idea of metamorphosis because it when designing my costume is allowed for me to work with human physical attributes as well as make belief costume. As Daphne becomes a tree at some point she would have been in state between laurel tree and goddess/human. The form this creates inspired me for my costume.
